Tuesday Thoughts & Talks [6]

This is a meme hosted HERE that asks us to present something we've learned or thought about after we finished reading a book to anyone out there - sparking a conversation amongst us!

What I Read to Spark the feels:
The City of Bones By Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments Series was one hell of a read! I'll admit that I sort of fell of the band wagon after Lost Souls - the huge time waiting in between for each new book was tortuous and well the characters lost their crazy touch for me! However this book series gave me some of my FAVOURITE characters of all time! Including JACE! This week's Tuesday Thoughts & Talks is all about our book boys! I've thought about these book boys for long periods of time. Obsessing and fangirling comes with every book lover - am I right? I've composed a list after some REALLY thorough thinking, of my top 5 favourite book boys. Here it is!

Top 5 Favourite Book Boys:
 1. Noah Shaw
from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer Series By Michelle Hodkin
2. Drew Evans
from the Tangled Series By Emma Chase
3. Jace Herondale/Lightwood/Wayland/Morgenstern
from The Mortal Instruments Series By Cassandra Clare
4. Patch Cipriano
from the Hush, Hush Saga By Becca Fitzpatrick
5. Trip Wiley
from the Remember Trilogy By T. Torrest

Now it's YOUR TURN!  Make a list of your TOP 5 FAV BOOK BOYS & add your link down below so we can all talk about our book boys!

Liebster Award LOVE !

Cecilie @ Little miss cucie and her readings, nominated me for this award recently! This is definitely a very cool experience to be a part of so THANK YOU Cecilie!
Check out her lovely book blog & make sure to leave some love for her!

So here are the rules:

1 - Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog.
2 - Answer the 10 questions given by the nominator.
3 - Nominate and link 10 bloggers (with less than 200 followers).
4 - Notify all the bloggers you've nominated.
5 - Create 10 new questions for your nominees to answer.

HERE ARE CECILIE'S QUESTIONS FOR ME:

1. What is your favorite setting in a book?
Hm, favourite setting it a book has got to be New York City. Something about it's nature and hustle and bustle city life makes for such great reading! I might have chosen New York because it's my home away from home too ;P Was naming a city too specific? I like thriving places! Places where you can be anywhere and do anything at anytime! As cliché as it's going to sound - it's really a city that never sleeps!

2. What is your favorite musical?
ONCE, hands down - the emotional journey it takes me through is amazing! I got to see it with my closest friends two years ago and it was such an experience! Would definitely recommend anyone out there to go see it!

3. Which language do you prefer your books to be in?
English - that's probably because I'm born and raised in Canada! I've seen books in other languages before and they are so beautiful! I can't fathom how someone else around the world can read these intricate words fluently as I read english! Mind is blown at stuff like that!

4. What is one book that you have heard nothing but good things about, but you ended up not liking as much as everyone else?
I have a few books for this question but I'll stick to naming just one. Looking For Alaska by John Green was one of those HIGHLY raved about books but I just found myself okay with it. I don't know if I was not giving the story enough attention while reading but I couldn't feel great about the story and its characters. (Is this where I start to get chased down by the John Green fandom? I'M SORRY - please don't throw stones at me!)

5. Which genres are your least favorites?
Business books? Haha um, my least favourite genres to read may have to be sci-fi, dystopian, middle grade and steampunk. Some of these genres I've simply grown out of. Nothing on the books - they just aren't what I want to read about anymore.

6. If you could live anywhere you wanted, where would it be?
I've got two contending places for this question - New York City because who wouldn't? And London, England because I can't get over my obsession with it's history and architecture & British Boys ;P London is pending however, on me actually VISITING the place.

7. What are your plans for summer?
Plans for Summer 2015 consists of: a month long intensive Painting Course, reading at least 20 books, painting/drawing, going to the Cottage, going fishing, visiting my sister in Calgary and then preparing to enter my FINAL year of University :)

I'm down to do some painting/drawing commission work so send me an email if you're interested or know anyone who is!

8. What movie are you most excited for this year, whether book related or not.
Ooo this is a tricky question there are a couple of movies I'm anticipating! I will have to say MINIONS! Who didn't love Despicable Me? I'm going to sneak this in here - A close contender to Minions would be Victor Frankenstein. All I'm going to say is Daniel Radcliffe & James McAvoy.

9. If you could ban a book, which would it be and why?
I hardly ever think about banning a book from bookshelves - it just sounds so serious the word 'ban'. But sometimes I let personal judgement get carried away. Working at a bookstore I get to browse a lot of books and when I found out Kim Kardashian released a book full of selfies and personal photos (book is titled: Kim Kardashain West: Selfish) I was shocked. This is the book I'd ban because I find it disturbing how much this book screams capitalism and egotism. Maybe the point of this book is to bring attention to all the attention and media craze that surrounds her? A criticism on the society we live in in North America (a little far fetched if you ask me)? There is a plethora of celebrity books like this but this one sat so shockingly at my store that I was totally taken aback by it! I'm sure Kim Kardashian is great and godly to millions around the world, I am just not one of those people who can appreciate her.

10. What is your favorite weather for reading?
Perfect weather and my FAVOURITE weather in fact, to read in, is rainy days! Not hardcore thunderstorms or anything but grey skies with rain falling at a steady quick pace. I feel so alive when I hear rain or run around outside getting wet from the rain! I love the soothing sound of rain hitting windows as I read.

~

Time to SPREAD the LOVE! Here are my nominees:

(I know some of these blogs go over 200 followers - close enough?)

AND TO THEM I ASK:

1. What is your favourite type of music?
2. If you were condemned to live off one food dish for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
3. Best plot twist you've read?
4. What are your top 3 books you want to read in 2015?
5. What is one book that has a significant impact on your life?
6. Best book villain?
7. What would you do with a million dollars?
8. What drink would best describe you (alcoholic or not)?
9. What would you say is your greatest fear in life?
10. Why is reading awesome? ;P

I cannot wait to read the responses from you lovely lot of bloggers & if you'd like to participate, just leave a message in the comments below with your answers to my questions! I want to hear from ANY blogger out there!

AS ALWAYS,
HAPPY READING!

Sunday Musings: New Books & Other Awesome Bookity Things [7]

Two birds one stone - I stumbled upon The Sunday Post Meme hosted by the lovely Caffinated Book Reviewer & the Stacking The Shelves meme hosted by the awesome Tynga's Reviews! It is quite similar to what I'm doing here with my Sunday musings - recapping the week in book blogging universe as well as letting you guys know about what books I bought or received.

So this week's Sunday Musing photo is extremely creepy!

This is what going to art school consist of - freaky things and beautiful artwork! Thanks to all the people out there who wished me a good-luck for my summer painting class because I definitely needed it! Although it's only been about a week since starting the course, I'm already stressed out about it! It is a good kind of stress though - the type that keeps me wanting more! This course is exposing me to painting with oils which is completely new to me. I'll admit that it's a really hard medium to paint with! You know the consistency of butter? You know how once it touches a surface it's almost impossible to get rid of that slime-y, greasy touch? Well painting with oils is like that except it's toxic and the colour is kind of permanently there. Not that anyone out there might find this relevant to book blogging but it was a crucial part of my week (and the next month) so I'm sorry in advance - you'll be hearing more about it I'm sure later on =)

Now back to some bookish type stuff! It's been a slow reading week for me. I try to at least post two book reviews a week but I just didn't get a chance to fully read and review a book for last Monday! Again I'm going to say, THERE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH TIME IN A DAY! Going forward for the month of June, while I'm in summer school, it looks like I'll be only getting to one book review a week :/ I'll try for two and hope for the best!

Review: The Beginning of Everything By Robyn Schneider

Title: The Beginning of Everything
Author: Robyn Schneider
Published Date: August 27th 2013

Robyn Schneider's The Beginning of Everything is a witty and heart-wrenching teen novel that will appeal to fans of books by John Green and Ned Vizzini, novels such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and classics like The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye.

Varsity tennis captain, Ezra Faulkner, was supposed to be homecoming king, but that was before—before his girlfriend cheated on him, before a car accident shattered his leg, and before he fell in love with unpredictable new girl Cassidy Thorpe.

As Kirkus Reviews said in a starred review, "Schneider takes familiar stereotypes and infuses them with plenty of depth. Here are teens who could easily trade barbs and double entendres with the characters that fill John Green's novels."

Funny, smart, and including everything from flash mobs to blanket forts to a poodle who just might be the reincarnation of Jay Gatsby, The Beginning of Everything is a refreshing contemporary twist on the classic coming-of-age novel—a heart-wrenching story about how difficult it is to play the part that people expect, and how new beginnings can stem from abrupt and tragic endings.

(Synoposis Provided By Goodreads)

Ezra Faulkner was the IT boy of his small beach town. Athlete, cool kid and lady crusher - he had control in everything, until the accident. Afterward nothing was the same. The group of friends he thought had his back were quick to move on and act like nothing ever happened. Lost and not knowing what to do with himself - Ezra begins again from the very start. With old friends and new hobbies - including one Cassidy Thorpe - Ezra starts to reconsider who he was to begin with. But as things seem to move on from his accident and life looks brighter, a shocking revelation leaves Ezra wondering why did tragedy strike him twice.

The Beginning of Everything is a slow progressing read but really worth the time. It stays interesting throughout with well crafted writing and attention to details. The book takes us on a unique journey into a recovering small town 'golden boy' who was hit by a car. I loved reading from Ezra's POV! He wasn't all that serious and he wasn't a goof. He had a great pace to him that made the story develop and build suspense. I definitely recommend The Beginning of Everything to anyone in search of a serious-but not to serious contemporary read! It borders a romance/self-discovery theme!

Reflect Thursday: Shining Books of Waiting on Wednesday [5]

Do you ever feel after a day like Waiting on Wednesday your list of TBR grows significantly? I wanted to mention a few titles that really caught my eye this week on the blogosphere after browsing the wonderful Waiting on Wednesday lists!

1. Pretty Baby By Mary Kubica
Expected Release: July 28th 2015

A chance encounter sparks an unrelenting web of lies in this stunning new psychological thriller from national bestselling author Mary Kubica

She sees the teenage girl on the train platform, standing in the pouring rain, clutching an infant in her arms. She boards a train and is whisked away. But she can't get the girl out of her head...

Heidi Wood has always been a charitable woman: she works for a nonprofit, takes in stray cats. Still, her husband and daughter are horrified when Heidi returns home one day with a young woman named Willow and her four-month-old baby in tow. Disheveled and apparently homeless, this girl could be a criminal—or worse. But despite her family's objections, Heidi invites Willow and the baby to take refuge in their home.

Heidi spends the next few days helping Willow get back on her feet, but as clues into Willow's past begin to surface, Heidi is forced to decide how far she's willing to go to help a stranger. What starts as an act of kindness quickly spirals into a story far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated.

This one sounds like such a thriller! So much suspense in the synopsis alone so I can't imagine what REALLY goes down in the book! Thriller reads always get me turning the pages fast!

1. Amber to Ashes By Gail McHugh
Expected Release: June 9th 2015

From the New York Times bestselling author of Collide and Pulse comes a gritty new novel about a shattered young woman who unexpectedly falls for two best friends as she struggles to overcome the trauma of her tormented childhood.

They were a storm I never saw coming, an unforeseen heartbreak on the edge of a dangerous cliff.

Amber Moretti's life changes in the span of minutes. An orphaned outsider, she is desperate to start fresh the moment she walks onto campus. In the time it takes to cross the university’s dining hall, she meets two men who bring color, air, and light to her darkened world.

They became my addiction, each a needle to my next hit, my high.

Brock Cunningham’s appeal is dizzying, a potent force Amber can’t deny. A green-eyed smooth talker, he instantly attracts Amber. It doesn’t take long for him to consume her every thought, her every breath.

Ryder Ashcroft, a blue-eyed, tattooed, and pierced bad boy, turns Amber off immediately—that is, until he kisses her, stealing a piece of her heart, her soul.

They were as opposite as fire and ice, yet I ached for them equally.

Never knowing she could be broken down in so many unexpectedly beautiful yet petrifying ways, Amber finds herself falling for both men.

Immoral? Maybe. I say undeniable. Uncontained.

But one event changes everything, shattering each of their lives…and Amber isn’t sure she can come back from it.

(Synopsis Provided By Goodreads)

I never liked reading love triangles because they caused me such grief but this one sounds pretty good! Also the ratings for Amber to Ashes is quite high. Maybe I'll love it - maybe I won't - but the cover has me hooked!
