Review: Wondrous Strange By: Lesley Livingston

Mon review of the lovely Wondrous Strange by the equally stunning, Canadian, Lesley Livingston:

Since the dawn of time, the Faerie have taken. . . .

For seventeen-year-old actress Kelley Winslow, faeries are just something from childhood stories. Then she meets Sonny Flannery, whose steel-gray eyes mask an equally steely determination to protect her.

Sonny guards the Samhain Gate, which connects the mortal realm with the Faerie's enchanted, dangerous Otherworld. Usually kept shut by order of icy King Auberon, the Gate stands open but once a year.

This year, as the time approaches when the Samhain Gate will swing wide and nightmarish Fae will fight their way into an unsuspecting human world, something different is happening . . . something wondrous and strange. And Kelley's eyes are opening not just to the Faerie that surround her but to the heritage that awaits her.

Now Kelley must navigate deadly Faerie treachery--and her growing feelings for Sonny--in this dazzling page-turner filled with luminous romance.

(Review brought to you by Chapters)

Upon the very first pages we meet this average girl, Kelley Winslow, who is striving to make an acting career for herself in the big city, New York. She is to star in her company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and believes this could be her big break! In the midst of studying her lines in central park one night alone, she meets a gorgeous stranger who goes by the name Sonny Flannery and he so happens to be guarding the gates to a whole different world! A world where it isn’t as simple as peace, love, and the human race but a realm of fairies and fae that possess the power to destroy everything in Kelley’s world!

Sonny is just a worker, a slave almost, to the King of the Unseelie Court of Fairies. He’s been chosen to guard these gates so no one shall pass through to the Otherworld. When Sonny meets Kelley there is instant spark and the harder he tries to protect her from his dangerous world, the more they learn that both of there worlds are due for some major destruction!

Kelley learns she is much more than the average human. She’s apart of Sonny’s world way more than they both know; she’s a fairy princess in line to inherit the throne to a fairy kingdom. There are people out there that want to embrace Kelley but there are others who want to have Kelley gone! Confused, scared, and in-love, Kelley is forced to make decisions she has no idea how to in order to protect herself, Sonny and her beloved world.

At times predictable but a good predictable; does that make sense? There is definitely something magical to the way Lesley Livingston spins this tale! I found myself flipping each and every page with more anticipation than before. It’s the way that Sonny shines and Kelley sparks that really bring this novel to life! Their characters ‘click’ and Livingston does a phenomenal job showing that romeo/juliet-esque love they have! Add in the touch of magic, and you’ve got this knock out fairytale! Handcrafted so nicely, and wrapped up in such beautiful cover art,

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars!

A must to ANY fantasy reader out there!

As Always,

HAPPY READING

I got the chance to meet Lesley in person here in Toronto and she is just so friendly! One of the funniest and most charming authors I’ve ever met! This is her debut novel and it’s unbelievable! Congrats to all her success!
