Sunday Musings: New Additions & Summer School Prep [6]

Two birds one stone - I stumbled upon The Sunday Post Meme hosted by the lovely Caffinated Book Reviewer & the Stacking The Shelves meme hosted by the awesome Tynga's Reviews! It is quite similar to what I'm doing here with my Sunday musings - recapping the week in book blogging universe as well as letting you guys know about what books I bought or received.

A week after being on vacation is hard - my body and my mind are still trying to adjust back into my normal routine! As we leave May behind and enter June, my daily schedule is about to get more complicated! I decided early February this year that I wanted to fast-track a little with my university courses and so I enrolled in summer school! For the month of June I will be taking an intensive Observational Painting course at OCADu here in Toronto. I'm super excited and super nervous about the course mainly because I'm not sure where I stand amongst the group of painters I'll be around. I am officially in the Illustration program at my University but the Observational Painting course I'm taking is in the Drawing & Painting department. I hope the adjustment is not too dramatic and nothing I can't handle!

I guess I should mention here briefly what my focus is with illustration. There are three things I love to do and they are: to draw&paint, to read and to write. I had a dream once where I got the chance to paint the things I read and so born, was my goal of becoming a book cover artist. Still haven't worked out the nitty gritty on becoming 'successful' in this goal of mine but in the mean time I'm enjoying an education in something I love. This past week was the week of Book Expo America in New York City and yes I am kicking myself each day that goes by because I'm not there and couldn't plan my New York trip to coincide with the expo and con. I'll cross my fingers and pray that I make it NEXT year. For now I'll settle with reading all the awesome tweets about what's happening and seeing all the epic author photos going around Instagram and Twitter!

I found this one first on a Waiting on Wednesday post a couple weeks back and I was so caught up with the synopsis. Definitely recommend checking this one out if you like mystery thriller fiction!

I rarely rate a book with a 1 star but this one was just bad. The writing was not the greatest - a little cringe worthy at times. A lot of stop and go with no real flow to the sentences or words! The connection between characters was weak and the chemistry was hard to believe. The overall plot was intriguing and initially drew me into picking this book up but not enough to keep interested thoroughly. I forced myself to read and finish this one.

The cover is awesome for Joyride and the two main characters sound very intriguing! They come across quite different so I'm very interested in finding out how their lives come together!

Premise for this book sounds amazing! I love art and a good enthralling love story! This one sounds like its full of heist and emotions too! Can't wait for November to pick this one up!

This is a second in the Daylight Falls Series by Dahlia Adler but it can be read as a stand alone. I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before because it is totally a contemporary YA for me! Hopefully I can read the first one in the series Behind the Scenes before this one is released! I love the behind the scenes-fame life of youngsters trope in YA lit so this is perfect, right?

Tuesday Thoughts & Talks [4]

This is a meme hosted HERE that asks us to present something we've learned or thought about after we finished reading a book to anyone out there - sparking a conversation amongst us!

What I Read to Spark the feels:

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin was one of those instrumental books I read during high school that altered a really big part of me. I picked up this book because of the cover and didn't know it told such a deep story of life and death. Death wasn't something I thought much about before this book. What it meant and the significance of it. As a kid you're kind of taught to be sad and mourn but never told why it's sad or at least for me. I grew up in a family that dealt with death in sort of a silent way. After reading this book, I remember taking sometime to really think about what death might be like and what sort of aftermath it left with those around you. Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs but how many of those are based on someone else's ideals? I'm guilty of blindly believing in certain things because of how I grew up and I am in no means shaming or disregarding anyone. There are certain things that we believe in that tie us to our older generations or people. In the case of how we all think about life and death, and what they both entail, I think it's important we all develop our own way of perceiving them. They are such monumental moments in our life that I believe we should give them as much thought as possible.

This book had high points and low points. The pace fluctuated and sometimes I was really intrigued - other times I was crawling through pages! Overall I just didn't feel connected to the characters and their interaction with each other. I was confused at why and how Hadley and her father's relationship grows in this novel. I guess this was one of those books I wanted to love but just couldn't.

Where do I begin to describe the last week? I just arrived back from my trip to New York today and I'm totally exhausted! I think in total I had about 15 hours of DECENT sleep in the last 6 days I was in New York! Between hanging out with my cousins and sight seeing/celebrating Memorial Day weekend, there wasn't time to rest! With that being said, I had a freakin' BLAST in New York! I got to tour the new One World Trade Freedom Tower that rose in place of the twin towers. It was such a monumental moment and it was surreal to be up there! What a way to spend Memorial Day Weekend! There was plenty of awesome food that was eaten but sadly not a lot of down time to read!

Before I left I got a chance to host an Debut Author Interview with the amazing Gina Ciocca! She wrote the beautiful book Last Year's Mistake which hits bookstores on June 9th. Gina is such a fun and down to earth author so check out the interview I did with her to learn more about how a writer and her story came to life!

I've been waiting around for a book like this to come about since I read Cut By Patricia McCormick in high school. Stories that deal with self-harm and the journey of self struggle is so fascinating and truly eye opening. Paper Weight has a phenomenal synopsis that drew me in! Easily going to be picking this beauty up when it is released in July!

Meet GINA CIOCCA ! Debut Author Interview

About a month or so ago, I received an ARC of the book LAST YEAR'S MISTAKE by Gina Ciocca. I read it and I fell in love. The writing was on point and the characters were crafted so nicely! If you want to read my full review of the book LAST YEAR'S MISTAKE, you can do so HERE. Now, the amazing part about book blogging is often, the author can be found somewhere online. I got a chance to connect with Gina Ciocca, author of LAST YEAR'S MISTAKE, through twitter after reading her lovely book and she was just the sweetest! A little back and forth messaging, and me just completely gushing over how much I enjoyed her book, eventually led to an author interview and here we are!

This Tuesday I wanted to talk about the books we read when we were younger. Do these books ever depart from us? I find myself going back to A Series of Unfortunate Events and rereading it from time to time - never losing interest in the story. I was first introduced to this series in forth grade and was so captivated by it! Are any of you guys finding you go back to read childhood books and loving them all the same? The writing and styles are so different I find, to what I'm reading nowadays that I'm a little surprised by it all.

So full of action, cocky bastards, and lots of laugh out loud moments, Rock Chick is a book I think anyone can enjoy!

I can't believe I've put off reading this book! It was sitting there for me to pick up but I never did till my good friend told me I had to start it! (Thank you Jess!) I'm so glad I did! The characters were definitely unique and well written! There was a variety of personalities that were merged together with Rock Chick that made the story that much more dynamic! The author does not shy away from including lots of action and drama. There isn't a chapter that goes by that doesn't risk lives - so fun to read!

Sunday Musings: Book Haul & Trip to the Big CITY! [4]

The next week is going to be quite exciting. I'll be flying out to New York City for a couple days! I love travelling and try to do as much as I can in between school and work throughout the year. New York is kind of my home away from home. There is always such a great vibe when I make it out there. Any New York readers? Anyways, the reason for this trip is I'll be attending my cousins graduation party. He's officially done university and I'm so happy for him! He's worked his butt off to get to where he is today and I can't wait to celebrate with him - CONGRATS CUZ!

What this means for the BloggityBLOG is that I won't be posting any new reviews while I'm away but the usual Tuesday Thoughts & Talks, Waiting on Wednesday and Sunday Musings will be on schedule! It'll be hard for me to blog while I'm away. I'm going to really miss interacting and reading all the great posts that arise during these days! I'll be back in a week and hopefully can catch up on all that I miss. While I'm in America I hope I get a chance to pick up some of the book recommendations I've got from you lovely people in the book blogosphere! It's also nice that America has such little tax (majority of Canada has a 13% tax rate!).

Another great contemporary YA novel that explores the pressures of being a teen along with a whole lot of fun in between! The writing in The Promise of Amazing was thoughtful and set just the right tone and pace for readers! Wren was a sweet girl with whom I felt a lot of connection towards. Grayson was that good boy-stuck in a bad boy world and that made for a really awesome read! Together these characters were just the right amount of opposite!
